The human brain undergoes dramatic changes in the time between birth and adulthood. From MRI to microscopy, we employ a range of techniques to study the nature of this development, and more importantly, what happens when this development goes awry. We seek to understand how childhood experience shapes the structure and organization of the brain, and how brain tissue itself may in turn constrain the development of behaviors like reading, socializing, math, and recognizing.
